Year One is a wonderful year of learning! Throughout the year we focus on independent sentence writing and progress to forming short narratives. We explore a range of beautifully illustrated stories to inspire our writing. We study colour, paper sculpture and weaving in art and have great fun investigating animals, living things and different materials in science.
We continue to use Read Write Inc to teach phonics and early reading. Children are encouraged to read their reading book, Corwin book and class library choice each week, changing their book once they have managed a speedy read!
In maths, we learn numbers to 100 including addition and subtraction, plus money, shape and time.
For homework, children are encouraged to read daily at home. Maths and English homework will be through Doodle. This is an online app/website.
