At Cecil Road Primary School we believe PE & Sport play an important role in making our vision statement a reality for every pupil, with the potential to change young people’s lives for the better.

Through PE & Sport our children learn to develop the important qualities of discipline, resilience, communication, team work, and ambition, leading to improved concentration, attitude, and academic excellence.

What is the Sports Premium?

Prime Minister David Cameron has announced that the Government will commit funding for the Primary PE and Sport Premium to 2020, with £750m to be invested over the course of the next parliament.

The investment builds on the £150m a year ring fenced funding currently committed for schools until 2020 to increase primary PE and sport opportunities. This is ring fenced funding - allocated directly to primary schools across England, and it became effective in September 2013.

What does the Sport Premium mean for my School?

‘Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this’ (DfE June 2013).

We are working closely with Take Pride, Gravesham School Sports Partnership and have identified key areas through a self -review process to ensure we can meet the high expectations in PE and Sport for our children.

‘Schools will also be required to include details of their provision of PE and sport on their website, alongside details of their broader curriculum, so that parents can compare sports provision between schools, both within and beyond the school day’-(DfE June 2013)

Our Vision

We have welcomed the Government’s announcement in June 2013 to provide additional funding to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. We are committed to using this resource in developing high quality PE lessons, alongside greater opportunities for sporting competitions and clubs for all our young people.

Amount of Funding

Allocations for the academic year 2016/17 are calculated using the numbers of pupils in Years 1 to 6, and those age 5 in Year R, as recorded on January 2016 Census, as follows:

  • Schools with 17 or more eligible pupils receive £8000 plus £5 per eligible pupil; and
  • Schools with 16 or fewer eligible pupils receive £500 per eligible pupil.

The PE and Sport Grant for 2016/2017 academic year is funded over two financial years with Cecil Road Primary School receiving the total of £9635 which will be split into two payments of £5635 and £4000.
