We believe PE & Sport at Cecil Road Primary and Nursery School play an important role in making our vision statement a reality for every pupil, with the potential to change young people’s lives for the better.
Through PE & Sport our children learn to develop the important qualities of discipline, resilience, communication, team work, and ambition, leading to improved concentration, attitude, and academic excellence. All of our amazing PE and Sporting events are coordinated and organised by our Sports CoOrdinator Mr Neville and he can be contacted via the school office.
Cecil Road Primary & Nursery Swimming Pool
At Cecil Road we are fortunate enough to have our own swimming pool which means our children throughout the year receive swimming lessons from Nursery to Year 6.
As the school’s designated School Swimming Champion, Mr M Neville, is the central point of contact for yourselves, your child, school staff, and our swimming lesson provider. He undertakes the necessary co-ordination and communication tasks to ensure we are making maximum use of the resources and support provided in the School Swimming Charter.
We have a large team of children play leaders that volunteer to give up their break and lunch times to organise games for our children.
The scheme is run by Mrs Gill, one of our teaching assistants, the preparation begins in year 5 when the children receive training on how and what games to set up for all the different aged children in school.
The play leaders play a very important part in ensuring that our children are able to enjoy active and happy playtimes. Also if there are any worries or upsets then our children know that the play leaders are there to help.
School Games Award
The School Games Mark is a government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. Participating in this process allows schools to evaluate their PE provision and assists them in developing an action plan for future progress.
We have now received the Gold award for the last 3 years.
Enhanced Healthy School
Cecil Road has achieved Enhanced Healthy School status. To find out more click here.
Change 4 Life
Change4Life Champions are young leaders that are typically in Year 5 and Year 6, who are used as an essential part of the Healthy Schools programme within their own school to help promote the message of healthy living to other pupils through organising fun activities and events.
