Sustainability

Our Commitment to Sustainability

At Cecil Road, we are dedicated to creating a greener, more sustainable future for our students, our community, and our planet. Our work is driven by an enthusiastic Eco Committee, made up of pupils and staff who meet weekly to plan, discuss, and take action on environmental priorities.

What We Do

Eco Action Plan
Our Eco Committee follows a clear action plan that guides our sustainability goals throughout the year. This helps us stay focused, track progress, and make meaningful improvements across the school.

Supporting Biodiversity
We actively encourage wildlife and biodiversity by planting trees, flowers, and other pollinator‑friendly plants both in our school grounds and in the local park. These efforts help create habitats for insects, birds, and other local species.

Recycling Initiatives
We promote responsible waste management across the school, ensuring that pupils and staff recycle whenever possible. Our aim is to reduce waste and increase awareness of the impact of everyday choices.

Saving Energy
To reduce our carbon footprint, we encourage everyone to be mindful of energy use. Simple actions—like turning off lights and electrical equipment when not in use—help us conserve energy and support a more sustainable school environment.

Active Travel

We encourage pupils, families, and staff to choose active travel, including walking, cycling, or scooting to school whenever possible. Choosing active travel:

  • reduces carbon emissions
  • promotes healthier lifestyles
  • eases traffic around the school
  • supports safer, cleaner air in our community

We regularly promote active travel through our daily WOW, walk to school challenge.
