Year 2

Teachers: Miss E. Ball and Miss M. Sooknanan

Support Staff: Mr Davision, Mrs Drubhra, Mrs Kaur and Miss Sparks

Year Two is an exciting year of learning and building independence! Throughout the year we focus on developing our independence in writing and our descriptive language and techniques in narratives. We also explore a range of writing genres with intriguing focus texts. We enjoy a range of different media in art and have great fun investigating animals, living things, materials, and plants in Science.

Year Two currently follow the Accelerated Reader programme, which involves texts tailored to your child’s reading ability. Once your child has finished their book, they will complete a short quiz to assess their comprehension of the text and then they can enjoy selecting their next book.

We continue to build upon their Read Write Inc phonetical skills within our English lessons as we build the foundation of core writing skills ready for KS2.

In Year Two we learn our 2, 5 and 10 times tables and related division facts. Following the White Rose scheme, we continue to develop our fluency and problem-solving skills as we build upon our prior learning. We teach the children the value of resources and the importance of selecting the appropriate mathematical strategy.

For homework, children are encouraged to read daily at home. Maths and English homework will be set through Doodle. This is an online app/website.
